How can we detect false teachings?

Answered in 1 source

We can detect false teachings by knowing the truth of God's word and comparing it to what is taught (2 Timothy 2:15).

False teachings can be detected by grounding oneself in the truth of scripture. As noted in 2 Timothy 2:15, believers are called to 'study to show thyself approved unto God.' By closely examining and understanding the canonical scriptures, which are inspired by God, Christians can recognize deviations from the core doctrines of faith. The truth of God's word acts as a filter for discerning authentic teachings from misleading claims. As believers grow in their understanding of scripture and the character of Christ, they become better equipped to identify and reject falsehoods that contradict biblical teaching.
