How can we discern between true faith and false religion?

Answered in 1 source

We can discern true faith from false religion through the fruits produced in a person's life, as genuine faith results in love and obedience to God.

Matthew 7 highlights the need for discernment between true faith and mere professed belief. The fruits borne from one's life are indicative of the authenticity of their faith. True believers, empowered by the Spirit, demonstrate love, kindness, and a concern for others, as seen in Galatians 6's emphasis on bearing one another's burdens. In contrast, those who practice a form of religion but lack spiritual transformation may engage in self-righteousness and judgmentalism. This distinction is crucial, as a superficial understanding or intellectual agreement with doctrine cannot replace the life-giving relationship with Christ. Only through the regeneration of the Spirit can one produce genuinely good fruit, highlighting the importance for believers to continually evaluate their hearts against these truths.
