How can we identify a false profession of faith?

Answered in 1 source

A false profession can be identified by a lack of genuine transformation and the nature of one’s heart, as evidenced by Simon in Acts 8.

Acts 8 introduces Simon, a magician who made a profession of faith but later sought to purchase the power of the Holy Spirit with money. His eagerness to buy spiritual gifts indicates a heart that was not genuinely transformed. Peter confronted Simon, stating that his heart was not right before God (Acts 8:21). True faith results in a heart change and a life marked by the fruits of the Spirit. Thus, when evaluating a profession of faith, one must consider the individual's life and motives. Genuine faith is evidenced by repentance, a changed life, and a desire for God's glory rather than self-promotion.
