How can we lay hold on Christ?

Laying hold on Christ requires an act of faith where one acknowledges Jesus not only as Savior but as the very foundation of eternal life. This act of faith is empowered by the Holy Spirit who first lays hold of individuals, awakening their hearts to trust in Christ. It involves coming to Him empty-handed, like the thief on the cross, who simply believed in Christ's power and authority. Faith itself is a divine gift; we cannot muster it on our own. Through engaging with God's Word, we become aware of our desperate need for Him, allowing us to lay hold on the eternal life that He promises, which is secured by His sacrifice and grace.
