How can we tell if we are using doctrine correctly?

Answered in 1 source

One can determine correct usage of doctrine by assessing if it builds others up and points them to Christ instead of causing fear or pride.

Assessing whether doctrine is being wielded correctly can be done through introspection about the outcomes of our discussions. Do people feel helped and encouraged after engaging with us? If individuals walk away feeling measured, criticized, or anxious about their understanding, it is likely that we are using doctrine as a trophy rather than as bread meant to nourish them. Romans 14:1 encourages us to receive the weak in faith. This implies that our approach should demonstrate patience and grace, allowing space for growth rather than scrutiny that leads to division.
