How can we test if someone is truly sent from God?

Answered in 1 source

We test whether someone is sent from God by determining if their teaching aligns with Scripture (Isaiah 8:20).

In 1 John 4:1, we are instructed to 'try the spirits whether they are of God.' This testing must be based on the truth of Scripture. As Isaiah 8:20 states, if a teacher does not speak according to the Word of God, it indicates a lack of light in them. Therefore, evaluating teachings against biblical doctrine is crucial. Miracles or outward appearances are not reliable indicators of divine sending because even false prophets can perform signs (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). True servants of God will consistently affirm scriptural truths and rely upon the proclamation of the Gospel for salvation.
