How can we understand God's wrath against Jesus at the cross?

Answered in 1 source

God's wrath was directed toward Jesus due to our sins being imputed to Him, making Him a substitute for sinners.

Understanding God's wrath against His Son at the cross is essential to grasp the depth of the gospel. Although Jesus was sinless, He was made sin for us, representing a profound substitution where our iniquities were laid on Him (Isaiah 53:6, 2 Corinthians 5:21). God's anger, while directed at sin, fell upon Christ as He bore the sins of His people, fulfilling the justice required for redemption. This act reflects God's holy nature; He must address sin with wrath. Therefore, at Calvary, Jesus experienced the fierce anger of God as He stood in the place of sinners, offering eternal redemption through His sacrifice.
