How did the first day of the week become important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

The first day of the week, or Sunday, became significant as it commemorates the resurrection of Jesus and the establishment of the early church.

The change from observing the Sabbath on the seventh day to the first day of the week occurred due to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which took place on Sunday (Matthew 28:1-10). This day became known as the Lord's Day and marked the beginning of a new covenant in which believers celebrate the resurrection and gather for worship. In Acts 20:7, we see the early church meeting on the first day of the week to break bread and preach, establishing a pattern that has continued throughout Christian history. Sundays became a day where Christians remember Christ's victory over sin and death, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, which also occurred on the first day of the week (Acts 2).
