How do baptism and the Lord's Supper relate to spiritual life?

Answered in 1 source

Baptism and the Lord's Supper are meaningful only when accompanied by a true understanding of their spiritual significance.

Both baptism and the Lord’s Supper serve as outward signs of inward grace but hold no intrinsic power unless they are accompanied by spiritual understanding. Baptism, as stated in Romans 6:4, signifies our identification with Christ's death and resurrection. However, if performed without a genuine understanding of what that represents, it profits nothing. The same applies to the Lord’s Supper; if taken without discerning Christ’s body and blood, it becomes mere ritual. Therefore, these ordinances must be approached with a heart that believes and an understanding that recognizes their deeper significance in the believer's life.
