How do believers receive righteousness according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Believers receive righteousness through the imputation of Christ's righteousness and by being born again.

Believers are made righteous before God in two ways: by imputation and impartation. Imputation refers to Christ's perfect obedience being credited to the believer’s account, as highlighted in Romans 5:19, where it states that by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience many will be made righteous. Additionally, believers experience impartation, where they are given a new righteous nature by the Holy Spirit upon regeneration. This is what Jesus emphasizes in John 3 when He discusses being born again. The believer’s righteousness is not something they achieve; it is a gift from God through faith, ensuring they stand justified before Him.
