How do Christians respond to suffering and calamity?

Answered in 1 source

Christians are called to respond to suffering by trusting in God's purposes and seeking repentance rather than attributing calamity to personal sin.

The reaction to suffering should not lead Christians to presume guilt or personal wrongdoing when facing calamity. Instead, as taught in Luke 13:5, Jesus connects the call to repentance with the inevitability of death, urging believers to focus on their relationship with Him rather than attributing their circumstances to sinfulness. Suffering can also be a means through which God molds and sanctifies believers, preparing them for His purposes. Rather than seeing hardship as punishment, Christians are to view trials as opportunities for growth in faith and assurance of God’s grace, affirming that our sins have been judged in Christ, thus removing fear of condemnation for the believer.
