How do human responsibility and God's sovereignty work together?

Answered in 1 source

God's sovereignty and human responsibility coexist, with God being in control while holding individuals accountable.

The relationship between divine sovereignty and human responsibility is a profound mystery. While God is sovereign and has orchestrated all events according to His will, He also holds each person accountable for their actions. This means that while humans make choices out of their own desires, they cannot use God’s sovereignty as an excuse for sin. Each act of wickedness is a personal responsibility, and acknowledgment of this fact is essential for seeking God's mercy (2 Thessalonians 2:8). In His sovereignty, God is able to work even through human failings to accomplish His ultimate plans. Thus, believers are called to recognize their agency in decision-making while trusting in God’s overarching authority.
