How do merciful people receive mercy from God?

Answered in 1 source

Merciful people receive mercy from God because their attitude reflects the grace they have experienced themselves (Matthew 5:7).

In Matthew 5:7, Jesus says, 'Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.' This beatitude highlights that those who show mercy to others do so because they have first been recipients of God's mercy. Recognizing our own condition and the grace extended to us by God motivates us to act mercifully toward others. As noted in Ephesians 2:4-5, 'But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.' The understanding of God's mercy compels believers to extend that same mercy to others, fostering a community of grace and forgiveness.
