How do modern churches misrepresent the doctrine of depravity?

Answered in 1 source

Many modern churches deny or soften the Biblical teaching on total depravity, offering false assurances rather than the full truth of human sinfulness.

The sermon critiques many churches for failing to communicate the depth of human depravity as described in Scripture. Instead of preaching the uncomfortable truth of mankind's sinful nature, they often resort to messages that promote false comfort, such as the 'age of accountability.' This diminishes the understanding of original sin and the necessity of repentance. In Romans 3:9-18, we see that none are righteous and that it is critical for the church to acknowledge and teach the full scope of human brokenness in order for the gospel of grace to be truly understood and appreciated. By avoiding this doctrine, churches inadvertently mislead their congregations about the nature of salvation and the need for a Savior.
