How do trials develop Christian character?

Answered in 1 source

Trials act as God's refining fire to cultivate and display different graces in the believer's life.

Trials serve not only as tests of faith but also as opportunities for spiritual growth. They allow for the development of both active and passive graces, enabling believers to experience joy and sorrow in their seasons. Much like certain fruits only flourish in adverse conditions, spiritual graces such as patience, compassion, and even joy can blossom within the context of struggle. The consistent pattern throughout scripture highlights that through afflictions, we learn to rely more deeply on God's provisions and care, growing into the likeness of Christ through our experiences.
