How do we combat sin if we are dead to it?

Answered in 1 source

We combat sin by relying on the truth of the gospel, which affirms our identity in Christ, enabling us to stand firm against sinful desires (Romans 6:11).

Although believers are declared dead to sin, the battle against it continues in our daily lives. Paul instructs in Romans 6:11 to consider ourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. This acknowledgment of our new identity in Christ empowers us to resist sin's allure. Practically, combating sin involves nurturing our relationship with Christ through prayer, Scripture study, and relying on the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts and actions. Believers are encouraged to fill their minds with the truth of God's Word, enabling us to see ourselves as we truly are: freed from the power of sin and fully alive to God.
