How do we know a prophet is true or false?

Answered in 1 source

A true prophet will confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh and fully aligns with the gospel message.

To discern whether a prophet is true or false, we must examine their confession about Jesus Christ. 1 John 4:2 states that every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God. This confession signifies not only the incarnation of Christ but also recognizes His pre-existence as the eternal God. Furthermore, a true prophet will not only profess this faith but also live it out in their ministry and teachings. False prophets, on the other hand, may speak scripturally but ultimately lead others away from the true nature of Christ or the full message of the gospel. Thus, alignment with sound doctrine, including the acknowledgment of Christ’s divinity, is critical in evaluating a prophet's authenticity.
