How do we know adoption is a key concept in being a child of God?

Answered in 1 source

Adoption is central to our identity as children of God, signifying that God chose and qualified us to be His sons through Jesus Christ.

In the biblical narrative, adoption signifies a profound act of God whereby He intentionally selects individuals to become part of His family. Ephesians 1:5 states, 'Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself.' This underscores that God's love and grace are the foundations of our identity as His children. The process of adoption entails both a legal and a public acknowledgment, indicating that while we are already accepted in Christ, our full recognition as God’s children will be manifest in the final glory to come. As believers, we experience this adoption primarily through the work of the Holy Spirit, which affirms within us our position as God’s children, enabling us to cry out, 'Abba, Father.'
