How do we know baptism is necessary for Christians?

Answered in 12 sources

Baptism is necessary for Christians as it is commanded by Jesus after His resurrection and symbolizes obedience to Him.

In the Great Commission, Jesus commanded His followers to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). This command establishes baptism as a distinctive act of obedience for all believers. While baptism itself does not save, it is an outward expression of faith and commitment to Jesus Christ, demonstrating that the individual has believed and accepted the gospel. Acts 2:38 further reinforces this as Peter commands those who have repented to be baptized. Thus, baptism is a public confession of faith that every believer is called to undertake as part of their obedience to Christ.
