How do we know baptism is not salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Baptism is an outward sign of inward grace and not a means of salvation.

The sermon emphasizes that water baptism itself does not provide salvation. As Peter states, 'water does not put away the filth of the flesh' (1 Peter 3:21). It serves as a symbol of the believer’s union with Christ, rather than a magical act of salvation. Baptism is meant to reflect an inner transformation that has already occurred through faith in Christ. The act itself, while important, is not the agent of salvation; it is a public confession of faith and an affirmation of the believer's commitment to Christ and His work on the cross. Jesus' baptism further illustrates this, as He was sinless and thus had no need for repentance.
