How do we know baptism is not salvation?

Answered in 2 sources

Baptism is not salvation; it is a command from Jesus and an outward reflection of inner transformation.

The Bible makes a clear distinction between baptism and salvation. Jesus Himself did not baptize anyone (John 4:2), which suggests that if baptism were essential for salvation, He would have done so. Additionally, the thief on the cross, who believed in Jesus, was promised paradise without being baptized (Luke 23:42-43). This indicates that while baptism is important for believers as a command and a testimony of faith, it is not the means by which we are saved. Our salvation comes solely through faith in Christ and His work on the cross.
