How do we know believers have been chosen by God?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture affirms that God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world.

The doctrine of divine election is rooted in numerous Scriptural passages that affirm God's sovereign choice of His people. Ephesians 1:4-5 states, 'According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.' This sovereignty reflects God's grace and mercy, as He chose individuals not based on their works or merits but according to His own purpose and will. This doctrine of election is a foundational aspect of sovereign grace theology, indicating that salvation is entirely a work of God.

Furthermore, the assurance of being chosen brings comfort to believers. It highlights not only God's sovereign will in salvation but also the transforming work of regeneration in the lives of those He has called. Just as a natural vine cannot bear fruit without remaining in the vine (John 15:4), believers must understand their dependence on Christ for spiritual sustenance and growth. This radical grace dispels any notion of self-righteousness, reinforcing that our standing before God is solely based on His love and choice.
