How do we know chastisement from God is a sign of love?

Answered in 1 source

Chastisement is a mark of God's love for His children, as it is a necessary part of their spiritual growth and discipline.

In Hebrews 12:6, it states, 'For whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.' Chastisement is not meant to punish but is a sign of God's fatherly care which seeks to correct and guide us in holiness. Just as earthly fathers discipline their children for their growth and well-being, God chastises His children to ensure they become partakers of His holiness (Hebrews 12:10). This process is necessary for spiritual maturity and reflects God's commitment to our growth.
