How do we know Christ is our propitiation?

Answered in 2 sources

Christ is identified as our propitiation because He is the sacrifice that satisfies God's justice.

The Apostle John, in 1 John 2:2 and 4:10, explicitly calls Christ the propitiation for our sins. This underscores that Jesus was sent by God as the fulfillment of all sacrificial types, serving as our mercy seat and the meeting place between God and humanity. He accomplished the work required for reconciliation, proving that God's love for His elect was manifest through Christ's obedience and sacrifice. Therefore, through faith in Christ's atoning work, believers are assured of their acceptance before God, as all the wrath that was due for sin has been directed onto Him.
