How do we know Christ must be everything in our lives?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's preeminence is a biblical necessity; He must be our everything.

The necessity of Christ being everything in the life of a Christian is rooted in God's demand for total allegiance. Colossians 1:18 indicates that 'He must have the preeminence'; this shows that Christ cannot be just a part of our lives—He must govern all aspects. A lukewarm faith that views Him as simply a good example or a historical figure runs counter to the Scriptural portrayal of Him as sovereign and central to our existence. To regard Him otherwise is to diminish His glory and our understanding of His work.
