How do we know Christ's invitation to rest is true?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's invitation to rest is true because it is rooted in His authority and the assurance of Scripture.

The invitation of Christ to find rest is backed by His authority as the Son of God and is firmly rooted in Scripture. In Matthew 11:28-30, He directly addresses those who are burdened, promising them rest. As sovereign Lord, His words carry the power to forgive sins and grant peace. Romans 7 illustrates the struggle with sin that all human beings face, confirming the weightiness of sin in our lives. God, in His mercy, convinces us of our guilt, making the freedom from that extremely burdensome guilt possible through faith in Christ. Consequently, we can rely on the sufficiency of His grace in the face of our sinfulness, validating His promise to give rest to our weary souls.
