How do we know Christ's representation is significant?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's role as our representative is significant because through Him, our sins are imputed to Him, and His righteousness is imputed to us.

Romans 5 articulates Christ’s role as the federal head of a new spiritual race. Just as Adam's offense led to the condemnation of all men, Christ’s obedience leads to the righteousness of all who are in Him. In Romans 5:19, it says, 'For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.' This signifies that Christ represents us before God, satisfying divine justice and enabling us to receive grace and righteousness through faith, which is foundational in understanding our identity in Him.
