How do we know Christ's righteousness applies to us?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's righteousness is applied to believers through faith, as He acts as our representative before God.

The assurance of Christ's righteousness being applied to believers is rooted in the doctrine of representation. Just as Adam was the representative of all humanity in sin, Christ is the representative of His people in righteousness. Each believer is united with Christ and thus shares in His perfect obedience. As the Apostle Paul teaches, those who are in Christ are seen as righteous by God because they are clothed with His righteousness through faith, which assures them of their standing before God.
