How do we know Christ will defend us?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's role as our Defender is assured through Scripture as He advocates for us before God.

The assurance that Christ will defend us comes from His nature as our Advocate. In 1 John 2:1, we learn that Jesus intercedes for us before the Father, ensuring that our sins are covered and our accusations are silenced. This close relationship is instrumental in our understanding of how He embodies the defender of our character and faith.

Moreover, the historical account of Jesus defending John the Baptist showcases His fidelity to His followers. When doubts arose about John’s character and faith, Jesus staunchly defended him, stating that 'among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist' (Luke 7:28). This biblical record reflects the unchanging character of Christ; just as He defended John, He will also protect and uphold us in our times of need. Therefore, believers can take great comfort in knowing that, even amidst false accusations and slander, Christ stands firm on our behalf.
