How do we know Elijah's prayers were effective?

Answered in 1 source

Elijah's prayers were effective because they were aligned with God's will and he approached God in faith.

Throughout the account of Elijah in 1 Kings, we see that his prayers were specific and filled with faith, as he prayed for various needs, including drought and revival. In James 5:17-18, it is noted that Elijah prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain for three and a half years. His prayers were acts of obedience to God's revelation, showcasing that when we seek God’s will and pray fervently, we can expect God to act in accordance with His purposes.
