How do we know eternal life is promised in Christ?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible assures us of eternal life through numerous verses that declare it as a promise from God, grounded in faith in Christ.

Eternal life is a promise that God has given throughout Scripture, particularly through the writings of the apostles. In 2 Timothy 1:1, Paul refers to the 'promise of life which is in Christ Jesus'. This promise emphasizes that eternal life is secured in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Moreover, the book of 1 John expresses the unequivocal assurance that 'he that hath the Son hath life' (1 John 5:12). Believing in Christ grants us this eternal promise, which is not based on our works but on God’s grace and purpose established before the foundation of the world. Thus, we ground our assurance of eternal life not in our merit, but in the faithful and immutable character of God who fulfills His promises.
