How do we know faith and love are essential for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Faith in Christ and love for others are inseparable evidences of genuine grace.

In Christian doctrine, genuine faith in the Lord Jesus is intrinsically linked to love for one's brethren. The Apostle Paul points out in Ephesians 1:15 that he is grateful for the Ephesians' faith in Christ and their love for all the saints. This dual demonstration serves as evidence of both received and growing grace. Continuous faith acts as the root, while love for others is the fruit that displays true spiritual life. Consequently, a lack of love towards fellow believers could signify an absence or deficiency in one's faith, as true grace naturally expresses itself through love in community, reflecting the work of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life.
