How do we know faith in Jesus leads to overcoming sin?

Answered in 1 source

Faith in Jesus is the victory that overcomes the world, as expressed in 1 John 5:4.

1 John 5:4 states, 'For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.' This illustrates that it is not merely faith itself, but faith in Jesus Christ—the Son of God—that grants believers the power to overcome sin and worldly temptations. The conflict with sin and despair can be intense, but the assurance lies in the truth that Christ has already overcome the world (John 16:33). Believers, therefore, can stand firm in faith, knowing that their victory is rooted in Christ's redemptive work and continual intercession.
