How do we know faith is a true gift from God?

Answered in 1 source

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and is granted to those whom God chooses to reveal Himself.

The belief that faith is a divine gift is foundational to Reformed theology, specifically found in Ephesians 2:8-9 where it states that it is by grace we are saved through faith; this is not of ourselves, but a gift of God. Saving faith is not generated by human effort but is birthed out of God’s sovereign will and purpose. Romans 10:17 further supports this by affirming that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Thus, faith is something that God imparts to the believer through His Word, illuminating their understanding of who He is and the necessity of trusting in Christ for salvation.
