How do we know faith is God's work?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is a divine gift that results from being born again, not a human effort (1 John 5:1).

The New Testament is clear that true saving faith is a supernatural work of God. In 1 John 5:1, it affirms that belief in Jesus as the Christ is the result of being born of God. This highlights that faith is not simply a decision made by an individual but rather the outcome of God's regenerative work in the heart of a sinner. The process of believing is initiated and completed by God, who grants the gift of faith to His elect. Thus, any genuine faith is ultimately attributable to God's sovereign grace, thereby emphasizing the divine nature of the act of believing.
