How do we know God allows suffering for a purpose?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture provides numerous examples where God uses suffering for greater good, illustrating His purposes (Job 42:5, Genesis 50:20).

The question of suffering and its purpose is central to understanding God's plan. Throughout the Bible, we find examples of suffering leading to greater good and God's glory being revealed. For instance, in Job 42:5, after enduring immense suffering, Job proclaims a deeper understanding of God, stating, 'I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.' This illustrates that God used Job's trials to teach him profound lessons about His nature. Similarly, in Genesis 50:20, Joseph reflects on his suffering at the hands of his brothers, saying, 'But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.' These examples show that God sovereignly uses suffering for His purposes and the ultimate benefit of His people.
