How do we know God alone is the cause of conversion?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture indicates that just as God commanded light in creation, He similarly initiates conversion in the sinner's heart.

In 2 Corinthians 4:6, we see a parallel between God’s creative work and His work in conversion. The passage states, 'For God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness hath shined in our hearts.' This suggests that just as God alone caused light to shine in creation, He alone is the cause of spiritual illumination and regeneration in a person's soul. It's a sovereign act of divine will that transforms the heart; no human effort can bring about this change. Paul himself experienced this transformation, showing that effective calling is independent of human action and entirely dependent on God's grace.
