How do we know God has thoughts toward His people?

We understand from Scripture that God's thoughts toward His people are ones of peace and purpose. In Jeremiah 29:11, God declares, 'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.' This echoes the sentiment of Psalm 139, where the psalmist expresses amazement that God's thoughts are precious and numerous towards him.
