How do we know God is a God to be feared?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible describes God as a great and terrible God, emphasizing His holiness and sovereignty.

Isaiah and other Scriptures portray God as a being worthy of reverence and fear. In Isaiah 8:13, it states, 'Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.' This perspective reflects the understanding that God's nature is one of absolute holiness and authority. When believers truly comprehend His majesty and the weight of their sinfulness, it leads them to a proper fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). Such fear compels believers to worship Him and seek His mercy.
