How do we know God is good despite His wrath?

Answered in 1 source

God's goodness is affirmed throughout scripture, demonstrating His mercy even while executing justice.

The book of Nahum presents God's character as both powerful and good. In Nahum 1:7, it states, 'The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and he knoweth them that trust in him.' This verse reassures believers that even in the face of God's wrath against evil, His fundamental nature remains good and protective towards those who have faith in Him. While God’s wrath against sin is severe, it is a necessary part of His goodness; without judgment, His goodness would not be fully expressed. The assurance that God knows and protects those who trust Him speaks to His continual care for His people, highlighting that His wrath serves to defend and uphold holiness, ultimately leading to the good of those who follow Him.
