How do we know God is merciful towards sinners?

Answered in 1 source

God's mercy is evident in His forgiveness and provision for sinners, demonstrated in Exodus 16 despite Israel's murmuring.

God's mercy is profoundly displayed in the way He responds to the rebellion of the Israelites in Exodus 16. Even after they murmur against Him, wishing they had died in Egypt, God chooses to provide for them by sending manna from heaven. This act of mercy is not only about providing physical sustenance but also serves as a testament to God's long-suffering nature. Romans 5:8 reminds us that God demonstrates His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Thus, the merciful provision of God through the manna serves as an earthly foreshadowing of the greater mercy revealed in Christ, who offers Himself as the sustenance for eternal life. God's willingness to provide for a rebellious people is a declaration of His mercy toward sinners who do not deserve His grace.
