How do we know God is teaching us through our afflictions?

Answered in 1 source

God's teaching is often revealed in our responses to our afflictions, where we learn dependence on Him.

When we face afflictions, it is essential to recognize that these experiences are not without purpose. In Scripture, we see that God uses trials to reveal our hearts and draw us closer to Him. David asserts the goodness of affliction in Psalm 119:71 because it cultivates understanding of God's ways. Job’s response to his extreme losses underscores this; rather than cursing his circumstances, he acknowledged God’s sovereignty, stating, 'The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away' (Job 1:21). Thus, afflictions can teach us profound lessons about humility, the transient nature of earthly possessions, and reliance on God's grace.
