How do we know God's afflictions are for our good?

Answered in 1 source

God's afflictions are for our good because they yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness and understanding.

Believers can be assured that God's afflictions are purposeful and beneficial. Hebrews 12:11 states that while chastisement may not seem joyful at the moment, it ultimately produces righteousness in those who are trained by it. The psalmist in Psalm 119 acknowledges that it is good for him to be afflicted because through those trials, he learns God's statutes. This teaching reinforces the truth that God uses difficulties to grow His people and guide them in His ways.
