How do we know God's character demands justice?

Answered in 1 source

God's holy character and the necessity of sin's punishment are evident throughout Scripture.

The holiness of God's character necessitates that He cannot overlook sin; His justice requires that every transgression be addressed appropriately. Isaiah 5 illustrates this with the metaphor of a vineyard that failed to produce good fruit despite God's careful cultivation. God's holiness cannot tolerate sin, and as a result, He must enact judgment to uphold His divine justice. In Isaiah 5:16, it states that the Lord will be exalted in judgment, further affirming that His holy character inherently demands justice. Such justice serves to uphold the integrity of God's commands and the inherent standards of behavior He has set for humanity.
