How do we know God's commands are authoritative?

Answered in 1 source

God's commands carry the authority of His character and His Word, contrasting with mere human commands.

In the sermon, it is shown that the commandments given by Jonadab, although followed by the Rechabites, lack the ultimate authority that God's commands possess. God's commands are backed by His eternal nature and His promises. While Jonadab's commandments were based on human authority and were arbitrary, God's Word is the ultimate authority, proclaiming the necessity of faith in Jesus Christ. In Jeremiah 35:14, God contrasts the long-lasting obedience of the Rechabites to the disregard shown by His own people towards His repeated guidance, showing that human commands cannot compare to the divine authority found in God's Word.
