How do we know God's discipline is for our benefit?

Answered in 2 sources

God's discipline is always aimed at our growth, teaching us about the seriousness of sin and guiding us toward holiness.

The purpose behind God's discipline is multifaceted and aimed directly at our spiritual welfare. In Hebrews 12:5-11, we learn that discipline is a sign of Sonship; it indicates that we are loved and part of God's family. Chastening serves not only to correct us but also to instruct us in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). The biblical examples of David and Moses point to the reality that even strong believers face consequences for their actions, yet these serve as profound lessons instead of mere punishments. God's sovereignty ensures that even in our sufferings, we receive less than what our sins deserve (Ezra 9:13), always directing us back to His grace and mercy.
