How do we know God's forgiveness is available to sinners?

Answered in 2 sources

God's willingness to forgive great sin is demonstrated through His response to Moses' intercession for the Israelites in Exodus 32.

In Exodus 32, God's initial reaction to the Israelites' idolatry indicates His desire for justice, as He expresses an inclination to consume them in His wrath. Nonetheless, through Moses' intercession, we see the power and grace of God in forgiving great sin. Moses reminded God of His covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, leading God to relent from His intended destruction. This narrative illustrates that God not only forgives but does so based on His own covenant faithfulness and mercy, showcasing His ability to save even the most rebellious.
