How do we know God's forgiveness is unconditional?

Answered in 1 source

God's forgiveness is unconditional because it is based solely on Christ's sacrifice, not on our actions.

God's forgiveness operates under the framework of His sovereign grace, which means that it is not contingent upon our merit or behavior. In the parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18, we see that the master's forgiveness of the servant's immense debt represents God's boundless grace towards us. Our sins are forgiven because of Christ's atonement, fulfilled through His blood, as noted in Ephesians 1:7. This transaction occurred outside of any actions or requests on our part, illustrating the unconditional nature of divine forgiveness, which leads us to understand we must also forgive others without conditions.
