How do we know God's grace is essential for growth?

Answered in 1 source

God's grace is essential for spiritual growth as it provides unmerited favor that enables believers to mature in faith and character.

God's grace is the foundational element of spiritual growth, as it is unmerited favor that God bestows upon sinners for Christ's sake. According to the sermon, growth in grace is not something believers earn, but rather a gift that calls them to dependence on God. As stated in Ephesians 4:16, the growth of the church occurs through the increase of God, indicating that the divine initiative is necessary for any form of growth in the life of a believer. Furthermore, growth in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ is presented as a continuous cycle of increasing understanding of God's grace as we become more dependent on it. Without God's grace, spiritual maturity would be unattainable.
