How do we know God's grace is special and not just general mercy?

Answered in 1 source

God's grace is special to the elect, as they receive blessings and promises that go beyond general mercy given to all mankind.

In Scripture, we find a distinction between general mercy, which God bestows upon all of creation, and the special grace that He gives to the elect. It is noted that while all sons of Adam experience God's mercy, the elect are recipients of His saving grace, which includes specific promises such as deliverance, answering prayer, and a place in Christ. This special grace is a testament to God's sovereign selection and unfailing love, assuring believers of their security and relationship with Him. It emphasizes that our standing is not based on our actions but on God’s merciful choice.
