How do we know God's holiness is central to justification?

Answered in 1 source

God's holiness is central to justification because it necessitates that sin must be addressed, highlighting the need for a savior.

In discussing justification, the character of God, particularly His holiness, plays a crucial role. Psalm 111:9 reminds us that holiness is His chief attribute. A holy God cannot overlook sin; He must address it. This is clearly shown at Calvary when Christ took on the sins of His people and endured the full wrath of God, demonstrating that God's justice must be satisfied. To justify the ungodly without compromising His holiness would undermine His very nature, which is why provision was made through Jesus Christ. The sacrificial death of Christ allows for the demonstration of God’s holiness while simultaneously providing a means of justification for sinners.
